Bats Out-Bludgeon Clippers in Offensive Onslaught

June 27, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release

The Columbus Clippers and Louisville Bats had themselves a wild rubber-match tonight at Huntington Park.

They combined for 21 runs on 29 hits, and spanked eight homers, five of them of the two-run variety, with the Bats coming out on top, 11-10, to win the three-game series.

The Bats hopped all over Clippers' starter Adam Wilk in the top of the first inning, putting up five runs on six hits. Dilson Herrera started the scoring with a two-run homerun, his first of the night, which Nick Longhi followed with a two-run double. Ahead 4-0, Chadwick Tromp added an RBI single to make it 5-0.

The Clippers answered in the bottom of the inning when Brandon Barnes knocked a two-run shot of his own, his ninth homerun of the year, to pull within 5-2.

Columbus would wait until the fourth, when they exploded for five runs to take the lead.

Nellie Rodriguez roped a two-run single to left, scoring two. The next batter, Greg Allen, hammered his first career Triple-A homer, a two-run bomb, to take the lead at 6-5. Francisco Mejia followed with an RBI double, making it 7-5.

That lead wouldn't hold long, as Steve Selsky pulled the Bats within 7-6 on an RBI single in the fifth, which Louisville backed up with a three-run sixth.

With a runner on first base, Ervin unloaded a two-run homerun to take an 8-7 lead. Herrera then went back-to-back with Ervin, knocking his second of the game over the left-field wall to pull ahead at 9-7.

The Clippers bounced right back in the bottom of the sixth thanks to Yu Chang. With a man on, he unleashed another two-run homer to knot things up at 9-9.

It was Louisville again in the eighth when Ervin deposited his second homerun of the game to the deepest part of the ballpark to lead off the inning against reliever Jon Edwards. His second of the season gave the Bats a 10-9 advantage. D.J. Peterson followed suit with another solo homerun to add on at 11-9.

Adam Rosales pulled the Clippers closer in the bottom of the eighth, plating one run on a fielder's choice to cut the Louisville lead to 11-10, but that's where things would finish.

The Clippers will host the Louisville bats for the first of a four-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Huntington Park.
