Toledo Mud Hens News Release
TOLEDO, Ohio - The West Division-leading Toledo Mud Hens were unable to avoid a sweep at the hands of the second-place Indianapolis Indians, falling 7-0 on Wednesday before a sold-out crowd of 10,500 at Fifth Third Field.
One of four Mud Hens (44-33) named to the International League All-Star roster, Ronny Rodriguez finished the night 3-for-4 with a double and a pair of singles. Fellow All-Star Jim Adduci reached base twice in the series finale, going 1-for-3 with a base hit and a walk.
Jacob Turner matched a season-high with six innings of work, but was saddled with the loss after allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out three. Zac Reininger struck out a pair in two shutout innings of relief, surrendering one baserunner.
Indianapolis (43-33) opened the scoring with a run in the top of the second stanza. Kevin Kramer started the frame with a double into deep center, advancing to third on a Wyatt Mathisen groundout to short. Max Moroff then sliced a sacrifce fly into right to drive in Kramer and give the visitors a 1-0 edge.
The Indians extended their lead with a pair of runs in the third. After Ryan Lavarnway whacked a leadoff a double into left, Mathison lifted a one-out home run to deep left to grab a 3-0 advantage. A fourth run arrived in the top of the next inning when Jordan Luplow sent a soft line drive into right to plate Erich Weiss.
Reininger kept Indianapolis off the board in the seventh and eighth, but the Indians broke through for a trio of runs in the final frame. With the bases loaded and one down, Kevin Newman clubbed a sacrifice fly to right to drive in Moroff, before a two-out triple from Adam Frazier brought home Eric Wood and Weiss.
