Lind Homers Again in 3-1 Loss to Buffalo
June 27, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
BUFFALO, N.Y. - In a game that followed a similar script to the first two meetings of the series, the Pawtucket Red Sox fell to the Buffalo Bisons, 3-1, on a rainy Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Field.
After winning Monday's series opener 3-2 and losing Tuesday's matchup 3-1, the PawSox (38-39) dropped the third game of the four-game series after Buffalo (36-35) plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Following a 25-minute rain delay, the teams traded zeroes to begin the ballgame, each scored a run in the fourth and remained tied until the Bisons surged ahead in the seventh.
PawSox designated hitter Adam Lind (1-for-4, R, HR, RBI) cracked his third home run in the last four days and continued an upward trajectory in which he's 11-for-31 (.355) over his last nine games with 10 RBIs and five walks. Lind has driven in four of Pawtucket's five runs through the first three games of the series.
Pawtucket starter William Cuevas (L, 5-5) allowed two earned runs (three total) on five hits and a pair of walks in 6.1 innings. Southpaw reliever Bobby Poyner allowed an inherited runner to score from second in the seventh, and right-hander Ty Buttrey punched out a pair on 97 MPH fastballs in an innocuous eighth inning.
Buffalo starter Chris Rowley (W, 5-4) finessed his way through eight innings of one-run ball with five hits, no walks and six strikeouts. Rowley's eight-inning performance marked the longest outing by an opposing starting pitcher against the PawSox this season. Jake Petricka (S, 2) buttoned up the victory in the ninth.
The PawSox snatched a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning when Lind tagged an opposite-field homer to left.
In the home half of the fourth, Buffalo left fielder Dwight Smith Jr. blooped a single behind third base, moved to second on an error on the play and later scored on an RBI single from Bisons catcher Reese McGuire, tying the game 1-1.
Buffalo climbed ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning when third baseman Darnell Sweeney laced the 12th pitch of his at-bat into right field, and right fielder Anthony Alford raced to the plate and eluded the tag after an excellent throw from Pawtucket right fielder Ramon Flores. Moments later, Bisons leadoff man Roemon Fields ripped an 0-2 pitch back through the box for an RBI single to extend Buffalo's lead to 3-1.
The PawSox conclude their four-game series with Buffalo on Thursday at 1:05 p.m. Pawtucket right-hander Chandler Shepherd (4-5, 3.61) is scheduled to oppose Bisons righty Jon Harris. Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM and 104.7 FM) and throughout the PawSox Radio Network begins with the pre-game show at 12:35 p.m.
The PawSox then return to McCoy Stadium on July 2-3 (Monday-Tuesday) for the start of a holiday home-and-home series against the Rochester Red Wings (Minnesota Twins). Good seats are available, and fans can visit the McCoy Stadium box office, which is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m., and during all home games. Fans can also call (401) 724-7300 or log on to PawSox.com for tickets.
