Buffalo Bisons News Release
BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo Bisons pitching staff combined to allow just two hits to help defeat the Columbus Clippers 6-0 on Friday night at Sahlen Field. The shutout was the 11th of the season for the Herd.
Buffalo's offense took advantage of a host of walks in the bottom of the third inning to score three times against Clippers starter Hunter Gaddis. Zack Collins was credited with an RBI after he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Rafael Lantigua followed it up one batter later with a two-run single to give the Herd a 3-0 lead.
The team's second straight three-run frame ballooned the lead to 6-0 through four. Trevor Schwecke's first career Triple-A hit came in the inning and drove in a run, his first with Buffalo as well. The 24-year-old was promoted from New Hampshire on Thursday and was the Bisons starting shortstop in the Friday night win. He scored two of the team's six runs, as well.
Otto Lopez's two-run double that capped the scoring also extended his hitting streak to a team best 17 games in the bottom of the fourth. Lopez is now hitting .297 thanks to his 15th double of the season, while increasing his RBI total to 29 on the year in the process.
Nick Allgeyer started for the Bisons and went two scoreless innings. He allowed a leadoff base hit to Bo Naylor to start the game, but promptly used a double play ground ball to erase the baserunner.
Six relievers combined to go the next seven innings for Buffalo, including Julian Merryweather. He was credited with the win for his one inning of work on a Major League injury rehab assignment. Tayler Saucedo followed, also working in a rehab stint. The left hander struck out all three batters he faced.
The Bisons pitching staff combined for nine strikeouts in the victory, while limiting Columbus to just two hits and five walks.
The victory has allowed the Bisons to claim the season series with the Clippers. Buffalo has won seven of the 10 meetings this year. The two teams are scheduled to meet on Saturday night for a 6:05 p.m. first pitch.
