Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Bulls catcher Rene Pinto clubbed three hits while driving in four runs, center fielder Vidal Brujan tallied three knocks, including a homer, and left fielder Jonathan Aranda extended his team-best hit streak to fifteen games, however Sounds first baseman Jon Singleton and right fielder Joey Wiemer combined for three homers and drove in seven runs in Nashville's 11-8 win over Durham on Friday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
The Sounds jumped ahead quickly with a four-run opening frame before Wiemer left the yard with a solo shot in the third to make it 5-0. The Bulls would narrow the deficit to two in the last of the third courtesy of Brujan's two-run shot to right and 1B Luke Raley's RBI single. After Singleton went deep with a three-run blast in the fifth to make it 8-3, Durham struck for two more scores in the last of the fifth thanks in part to DH Josh Lowe's RBI double.
Singleton would later drive in his fourth run of the evening with a single before coming home when Wiemer homered for the second time to make it 11-5. Pinto would then drive in Durham's final three runs of the evening with a run-scoring single in the seventh and two-run double in the ninth.
Pinto (3-4, 2 2B, 4 RBI) and Brujan (3-5, R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) led Bulls batters with three knocks apiece, with Lowe and 2B Miles Mastrobuoni adding multi-hit efforts as well. Aranda extended his team-best hit streak to 15 games with a leadoff double in the seventh, and has posted a .377 average (23-61) with 11 runs, four doubles, three homers and 19 RBI in that span.
Nashville reliever Justin Topa (1.2 IP, 1 H) earned the victory, while Durham righty Chris Muller (1.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO) suffered the defeat. Tampa Bay Rays reliever Matt Wisler (1.0 IP, 1 SO) fired a scoreless inning for the Bulls as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment.
The two teams are set to meet again on Saturday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm. The Bulls' starting pitcher has not yet been announced, while the Sounds are expected to send RHP Tyler Herb to the hill.
