Harvey Stars in Rain-Shortened Win at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fl. --- *The Norfolk Tides (55-65) beat the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (64-56), 10-2, Friday night at 121 Financial Ballpark. The Navy Town Showdown is now tied at 8-8, with five games remaining between the two teams. The game finished in seven innings due to rain.

Norfolk got on the board in the first inning when Kelvin Gutierrez hit a two-run triple. But Jacksonville tied it up in the bottom half, hitting back-to-back jacks by Brian Miller and Jordan Groshans to make it 2-2.

Three more runs scored for the Tides in the second, capped by a two-out RBI single by Yusniel Diaz. The Tides added one more run in the fifth when Shayne Fontana ripped an RBI double to put them up, 6-2.

Matt Harvey didn't allow any more runs after the two home runs allowed in the first. He recorded his second seven-inning complete game of the year, allowing six total hits and a walk while striking out seven. He improved to 5-1 on the season.

The Tides sunk the dagger in the top of the sixth. Brett Cumberland started the scoring with a two-run double. Robert Neustrom *followed with an RBI single. The scoring was capped with an RBI single by *Richie Martin to put the score at 10-2. That's when the rain came, ending the game and tying the series at 2-2

Game five is set for tomorrow night with first pitch at 6:35 p.m. LHP Drew Rom (0-0, 1.93) is set to make the start for the Tides, while RHP Jeff Lindgren (2-2, 7.08) will be on the hill for Jacksonville.

POSTGAME NOTES

DARK KNIGHT OF NORFOLK: It was the second time this season Matt Harvey had a seven-inning complete game this season, with the other happening in game one on July 14 vs. Worcester...he's lasted at least 5.0 innings in eight of his nine starts, limiting his oppenent's to three earned runs or less in six of his eight 5.0+ inning starts.

KID GUTI: Going 1-for-3 with a run, a two-run triple and two walks, Kelvin Gutierrez extended his hitting streak to nine games, the longest active streak for the Tides...during his streak, he's batting .273 (9-for-33) with two doubles, two triples, a home run, nine RBI and six walks (.385 OBP).

OUCH!: A Tides batter was hit for a fifth straight game tonight, setting the team season-high...tonight's victim were Jacob Nottingham and Robert Neustrom...Nottingham now leads the team with nine, ranking tied for 12th in the International League...the Tides team total is at 88, ranking second to Columbus (92) in the International League...the 88 plunks are a single-season franchise record for the Tides, and are on pace for 110.

80% THERE: The Tides have now played 120 games, with 60 games each away and at home...Norfolk has done better away (29-31) than at home (26-34)...Norfolk has slashed .245/.341/.400/.741 on the road, while slashing .227/.333/.401/.734 at Harbor Park...the pitching has actually been slightly worse on the road, allowing a 5.16 ERA, a .272 average and a 1.52 WHIP where at Harbor Park the ERA is 5.10, the opponent's average is .259 and the WHIP is also 1.52.
