Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (56-65) scored three runs in the eighth inning to come back and beat the St. Paul Saints (57-62) by a score of 6-5, Friday at Principal Park.

Matt Swarmer made the fourth straight start of five innings for Iowa tonight, allowing just one hit while striking out five. Unfortunately for Iowa, Ronny Henriquez was just as good for St. Paul.

He also spun four scoreless innings keeping a 0-0 tie intact until John Hicks clubbed a solo home run to give the I-Cubs the lead. The Saints came right back, getting three runs of their own in the sixth on an RBI double from Matt Wallner and two RBI singles by Mark Contreras and Jermaine Palacios.

From there, both teams scored in each at-bat they had, with St. Paul carrying a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the eighth. Hicks drew a bases loaded walk and Jackson Frazier came through with a two-run single to give Iowa their second lead of the game, at 6-5.

With the lead entering the ninth, Jeremiah Estrada allowed a leadoff single but went on to strike out the next three batters to earn the series win over St. Paul.

POSTGAME NOTES:

- Matt Swarmer was perfect through four innings, ending with a line of one hit and five strikeouts over five innings. He is the fourth consecutive I-Cubs starter to throw five innings.

- Darius Hill went 0-for-4 tonight out of the leadoff spot ending his 11-game hitting streak. He was just one hit shy of his career-high 12 games set earlier this year.

Iowa and St. Paul will play game five of their series tomorrow, with first pitch from Principal Park set for 6:08 pm. For more information and tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
