'pigs Win Marathon Back-And-Forth Game

(Allentown, PA) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (67-54) rallied back three times throughout Friday evening to defeat the Gwinnett Stripers (59-62) 14-13. Both teams combined for 27 hits and runs.

Rylan Bannon hit a sacrifice fly against Bubby Rossman in the top of the first inning to give Gwinnett a 1-0 lead. The Stripers extended their lead to 4-0 against Rossman in the top of the third inning. Hernan Perez hit an RBI single to score Delino DeShields and Bannon hit a two-run double to score Perez and Taylor Motter.

Lehigh Valley tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the third inning against Ian Anderson. Daniel Robertson hit an RBI double to score Chris Sharpe. Brandon Marsh followed with an RBI single to score Robertson then Dalton Guthrie hit an RBI double to score Marsh. Donny Sands hit a sacrifice fly to score Guthrie.

Gwinnett struck back to take a 6-4 lead against Ofreidy Gomez in the top of the fourth inning. Motter hit an RBI double to score DeShields and Bannon hit an RBI single to score Motter. The IronPigs cut the lead to 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning as Guthrie hit an RBI single against Anderson to score Marsh.

Bannon hit an RBI single against Mark Appel in the top of the sixth inning to score DeShields and give Gwinnett a 7-5 lead. Yariel Gonzalez hit an RBI single that scored Perez and Bannon to extend Gwinnett's lead to 9-5. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the IronPigs scored six runs to take a 11-9 lead. Marsh hit an RBI single that score Yairo Munoz and Robertson. A wild pitch by Seth Elledge allowed Robertson to score from third base. Darick Hall hit a sacrifice fly to score Marsh then Sands hit a go-ahead two-run home run.

The Stripers would jump ahead 12-11 in the top of the seventh inning as Bannon hit a three-run home run against Michael Kelly (1-2). The IronPigs scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 14-12 lead against Danny Young. DeShields singled against Jakob Hernandez in the top of the eighth inning to cut Lehigh Valley's lead to 14-13.

Francisco Morales earned his second save of the season by pitching a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The IronPigs and Gwinnett Stripers continue their series on Saturday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
