JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Brian Miller and Jordan Groshans blasted back-to-back solo home runs in the first inning Friday but the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp fell 10-2 to the Norfolk Tides in a rain-shortened seven-inning contest in front of 5,107 fans at 121 Financial Ballpark.

Jacksonville (64-57) fell behind after the first frame but answered quickly in the bottom of the first. Miller (7) launched a solo home run off Norfolk (55-65) starter Matt Harvey (W, 5-1). Groshans (2) followed in the next at-bat with a solo home run of his own to tie the game at two.

The Tides' offense exploded after the first inning. Robert Neustrom started the top of the second with a triple and then scored as Richie Martin reached on an error to break the tie 3-2. The error allowed Martin to advance to third. Martin then scored on a ground out from Shayne Fontana to increase the lead to 4-2. Gunnar Henderson singled with one out and Jacob Nottingham was hit by a pitch two batters later. With runners on first and second, Yusniel Diaz singled to score Henderson as Norfolk pushed their lead up to 5-2.

Norfolk did not strike again until the fifth inning. With one out, Brett Cumberland singled and Neustrom was hit by a pitch. With runners on first and second, Martin reached on a fielder's choice to put runners at the corners. Fonatana smacked a base hit, plating Cumberland to push the Tides advantage to 6-2.

The game was blown open by the Tides in the top of the sixth as they sent nine batters to the plate. Matthew Kent (L, 6-9) left the game after the fifth and was replaced by Aneurys Zabala. After getting the first out, Nottingham, Diaz and Kelvin Gutiérrez drew three consecutive walks to load the bases. Cumberland swatted a two-run single to give Norfolk an 8-2 lead. Gutiérrez advanced to third on the single and then scored on a base knock from Neustrom. With runners at the corners again, Martin smacked the third consecutive hit, scoring Cumberland to give Norfolk an eight-run lead, 10-2.

The Tides drew first blood in the top of the first. With one out, Westburg drew a walk and Nottingham singled. With two runners on, Diaz reached on a fielder's choice with Westburg forced out at third. In the ensuing at-bat, Gutiérrez plated both runners with a two-run triple to boost Norfolk ahead 2-0.

The teams came out for the top of the eighth, but the rain came down stronger, causing a delay that would send the game to a final score 10-2 in a rain-shortened contest.
