Wranglers Add Former First Round Pick Bonsignore
The Wranglers signed Jason Bonsignore, who was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round (#4 Overall) of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. Overall, the Rochester, NY native suited up 79 times in the NHL, with three goals and 13 assists for 16 points, to go along with 34 penalty minutes. The 28-year old Bonsignore joins the Wranglers after playing one game this season with the South Carolina Stingrays. Two years ago, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound center played five games in South Carolina with two goals and five assists for seven points. For his career, Bonsignore has played 337 games, scoring 63 goals and adding 113 assists for 176 points. His best season as a pro came with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL during the 1996-97 season.
Bonsignore scored 21 goals and assisted on 33 others for 54 points in 78 games played for Hamilton.
Wranglers' Rookies Making Impact
Rookie Dustin Johner leads Las Vegas in scoring with 18 goals and 21 assists for 39 points. Johner needs four goals to set the new team record for goals in a season. Eric Schneider and Chris Kenady each scored 21 last season. Johner's 39 points are tied for fourth in the league in scoring among rookies and his eight power-play goals are tied for first among rookies with teammate Chris Stanley. Johnner also leads all rookies with 11 power-play assists. Center Chris Stanley is ranked second in the league among rookies with 141 shots on goal. Stanley needs 24 shots to surpass defenseman Dave Cousineau for most shots in a season by a rookie with 164 last year. Winger Adam Huxley already has broken the team records for penalty minutes by a rookie (Doug Wright, 104 in 2003-04) and major penalties (Chris Wheaton, 11, 2003-04) in one season. Huxley's 172 penalty minutes are on pace to break Wheaton's mark of 214 set during the 2004-05 season. Huxley's 172 minutes place him in the top ten of the league and third among rookies. Huxley's 15 majors place him third highest in the league and second among rookies.
