Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release

BULLIES REWIND: The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies fell to third place in the competitive North Division following a week in which Atlantic City was swept in a two-game series at home Peoria sandwiched around a victory at Johnstown on Friday. With a game in hand over both Wheeling and Toledo, the Bullies sit six points behind the first place Nailers and two points behind the second place Storm. Atlantic City is one point ahead of fourth place Reading.

Wednesday, Peoria's Alfie Michaud stopped all 37 shots he faced and Randy Rowe's goal in the third period was the difference as the Peoria Rivermen defeated the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies 2-0 before 1587 at Historic Boardwalk Hall. After a scoreless two periods, Rowe tallied the only goal Peoria (19-16-4) would need when his intended pass across the slot deflected off Bullies goaltender Tyler MacKay's stick and into the net at 7:47 of the third to give the Rivermen a 1-0 lead. Tyler Rennette added an empty-net goal at 19:28 to seal the victory. Atlantic City (22-13-6) out-shot Peoria 37-19. MacKay stopped 17 shots as he fell to 0-4 on the season. The Bullies went 0-3 on the power play.

Friday, Trevor Koenig stopped 29 shots in his Bullies debut and Atlantic City scored three unanswered goals to defeat the Johnstown Chiefs 3-1 before 1962 at the Cambria County War Memorial. With the win, the Bullies snap a six-game road winless streak. The clubs traded goals in the opening period. Johnstown (15-14-10) opened the scoring at 15:32 when Dimitri Tarabrin split the pads of Bullies goaltender Trevor Koenig with a shot from the right-wing circle to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Atlantic City (23-13-6) came back to net the equalizer with a power play tally with just 10 seconds remaining in the period. Dan Peters fired a shot from the blue line that beat a screened Johnstown goaltender David Currie over the right shoulder at 19:50 to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the first intermission. The Bullies took their first lead of the game at 11:08 of the second period. Kelsey Muench from behind the net centered the puck to Scott Horvath at the top of the crease, and Horvath tipped the puck beyond the outstretched pad of Currie to give the Bullies a 2-1 advantage. Derek Edwardson increased the Bullies lead to 3-1 when his shot from the left-wing circle beat Currie over the left shoulder at 2:40 of the third period. Johnstown out-shot Atlantic City 30-26. Koenig stopped 29 shots to earn the victory in his Bullies debut. He improves to 11-6-2 on the season. The Bullies went 1-5 on the power play.

Saturday, Alfie Michaud stopped 26 shots and Kris Kasper was credited with the game-winning goal to lead the Peoria Rivermen to a 2-1 win over the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies before 2277 at Historic Boardwalk Hall. After a scoreless first period, Peoria (20-16-4) struck first when Tyler Rennette collected Trevor Baker's rebound in the slot and beat Bullies goaltender Trevor Koenig above the left shoulder 32 seconds into the second period for a 1-0 lead. Kasper made it 2-0 at 11:51, re-directing Aaron Forsythe's point shot through Koenig's pads to increase Peoria's advantage. Colin Shields brought Atlantic City (23-14-6) to within a goal at 16:34 of the second. Shields took a feed at the left-wing circle, broke in alone on Michaud, and slipped the puck through his pads to cut the Bullies deficit to 2-1, but that was as close as they would get. Peoria out-shot Atlantic City 28-27. Koenig stopped 26 shots to fall to 11-7-2. The Bullies went 0-4 on the power play.

BULLIES "TOP DAWG" AWARD: Each Monday from now until the end of the season, Public Relations and Broadcasting Manager Dan Weiss will select the Bullies "Top Dawg" for the week. This week's winner is goaltender and newcomer Trevor Koenig who earned his first victory in a Bullies uniform in his debut by stopping 30 Johnstown shots, and followed that with a respectable 26-save performance the next night against Peoria in a losing effort. Honorable mention goes out to Jason Notermann who notched three assists this week and has a point in five out of his last six games.

ALL IN A DAY'S WORK: Veteran goaltender Trevor Koenig was thrusted into action on Friday against Johnstown following his trade earlier in the afternoon from San Diego. Koenig boarded a plane at 7AM PST to Pittsburgh and then drove the additional hour and a half to Johnstown where he arrived at 6PM, one hour before game-time. The travel didn't seem to bother the netminder who was sensational in his Bullies debut. At the young age of 30, Koenig also owns the distinction of being the first player older than Bullies Head Coach Matt Thomas.

REIMANN ON BOARD: Defenseman/forward Tom Reimann joined the Bullies on Monday in time for their two-game, three day trip to Dayton and Toledo. Reimann, acquired on Friday in exchange for goaltender Tyler MacKay and the rights to center Jim Henkel, was an ECHL All-Star last season in Greensboro with 11 goals and 33 points in 43 games and becomes the seventh University of Maine alumnus to play in Atlantic City joining Brendan Walsh, Matt Yeats, Jim Leger, Paul Falco, Peter Metcalf, and Colin Shields. Head Coach Matt Thomas and Equipment Manager Josh MacDonald are also apart of the storied Maine hockey program.
