THE WEEK AHEAD

Tuesday, February 8th Inferno vs. Charlotte Carolina Coliseum 7:30pm

This is the 8th meeting between the Inferno and Checkers. Columbia is 3-3-1 this season and 14-5-3 all-time against Charlotte. The Checkers is in first place in the East Division with 52 points (25-16-2) and have played four more games than the Inferno. The Inferno is two points behind them in the East Division.

Friday, February 11th Inferno vs. Louisiana Carolina Coliseum 7:30pm

The IceGators is in 5th place in the South Division with 37 points (17-23-3) in 43 games. This is the second game between these two teams. The Inferno won the last meeting on December 10th 2-1 in a shootout.

Saturday, February 12th Inferno vs. Louisiana Carolina Coliseum 7:30pm

The Inferno is 1-0-0 against Louisiana this season and 2-2-0 all-time. This is the second of back-to-back home games for Columbia against the IceGators.

Tuesday, February 1st INFERNO 3 South Carolina 2

The Columbia Inferno snap the South Carolina Stingrays 10-game winning streak as they take the game 3-2. Derek Eastman scored his first goal of the season as he dove for the puck and shot it from ice level at 5:24 of the first period. Bryson Busniuk and John Longo assisted on the goal. At 10:02, D'Arcy McConvey scored on the power play as he shot the puck behind goaltender Daubenspeck to notch his 10th goal of the season with help from Busniuk and Longo. The Stingrays tied the game with two quick goals in the second period by Robin Gomez and Kevin Spiewak. Brad Ralph scored the game-winning goal at 14:07 on the power play as he pushed the puck between the legs on a two-man advantage. Walker McDonald and Trevor Demmans assisted on the goal. The Stingrays applied pressure in the third period but the Inferno skated away with the win. The win puts the Inferno tied for second place in the East Division along with the Stingrays with 47 points. The Inferno have played three less games than the Stingrays.

Friday, February 4th Inferno 2 GREENVILLE 3 (SO)

The Greenville Grrrowl stole the game from the Columbia Inferno in a sudden death shootout 3-2. Greenville opened the scoring at 9:32 of the first period with a goal by Krys Barch. Columbia answered back at 13:45 as Andy Berg one-times a shot off of a Bruce Ralph rebound. Derek Eastman had the second assist. With no scoring in the second period, Columbia came out strong in the third when D'Arcy McConvey scored his 11th goal of the season at 10:41 as he receives a perfect pass from Bryson Busniuk. Greenville would not give up as they tied the game at 14:57 to push it into overtime.

Saturday, February 5th INFERNO 4 Pee Dee 1

After a strong performance by Inferno goaltender Mike Minard, the Columbia Inferno beat the Pee Dee Pride 4-1. Columbia struck in the second period with two power play goals. Brad Ralph scored at 13:48 as Walker McDonald set him up from behind the net. Bryson Busniuk had the second assist. Ryan Campbell, playing his first game back from spending time on the injured reserve, scored his eighth goal of the season as he redirects the puck. Trevor Demmans and Tim Smith assisted on the goal. Pee Dee scored their lone goal at 3:49 of the third period as Darryl Green tapped it in. At 17:23, John Longo scored an unassisted goal, his sixth of the season on a breakaway to give the Inferno a 3-1 lead. Ralph added an empty net goal at 19:48. Minard earned his 15th win of the season as he stopped 30 of 31 shots on goal.
