SAN DIEGO –– There's no place like home... You can bet every player on the San Diego Gulls is saying that Monday after returning home from a seven-game, 11-day road trip which saw them struggle to a 2-4-1 record. The good news... San Diego plays five of its next six games on home ice.

The Gulls began the week with their second straight loss in Toledo, before falling in overtime against the Wheeling Nailers. San Diego rebounded the next night with a come-from-behind shootout win in Johnstown, but ended the long trek on Super Bowl Sunday with another loss in Wheeling. With the rocky road trip, the Gulls limp home fifth in the West Division, two points behind the fourth-place Fresno Falcons.

WEEK IN REVIEW:

Feb. 2 @ Toledo: Nick Parillo scored two goals and added an assist, leading the Storm to a 4-2 victory over the Gulls. Tomas Micka and Parillo gave Toledo a 2-0 lead, but San Diego tied it with a second-period goal by Mike Garrow and early third-period power-play goal by Sean O'Connor. Parillo, however, notched the game-winner short-handed 59 seconds after Garrow tied it and assisted on Tyler Knight's marker late in the frame to seal the Storm's victory.

Feb. 4 @ Wheeling: Yevgeny Lazarev scored 1:46 into overtime, leading the Nailers to a 4-3 win over the road-weary Gulls. Wheeling jumped out a 2-0 first-period lead, but San Diego potted three straight to take a one-goal lead early in the second. The Nailers, however tied it up late in the second on their third power-play goal of the night. That's how it stayed until Lazarev banged in the overtime game-winner.

Feb. 5 @ Johnstown: The Gulls again overcame a 2-0 deficit, but this time won, as they beat the Chiefs 3-2 in a shootout. Johnstown scored a goal in the first and second period, heading into the third with the two-goal lead. Guillaume Fournier answered with a pair of tallies 2:51 apart early in the third, sending the game to the extra session. In the shootout, Eddy Ferhi stopped all four Johnstown shooters, while Fournier and Curtis Brown tallied for San Diego.

Feb. 6 @ Wheeling: It was a scoreless duel heading into the third period, but the Nailers scored three times in the final frame and cruised to a 3-0 shutout. Ferhi, arguably the better goaltender in the game, stopped 32 shots, but suffered the hard-luck loss.
