Worcester Red Sox News Release

WORCESTER, M.A. - The Worcester Red Sox (64-61) put up eight runs over the first two innings on the way to a 9-1 win over the Buffalo Bisons (65-59) on Wednesday night at Polar Park.

Four batters in to the game, Connor Wong set the tone with a three-run home run to left-center. The 420-foot blast continued a torrid August for Wong, who has slashed .368/.411/.838 with an International League-leading nine homers in the month.

An inning later, the WooSox blasted the game wide open, a frame that began with three straight singles. Abraham Almonte made it 4-0 with an RBI single to left, and after a walk and strikeout, Triston Casas delivered a run-scoring single of his own. Pedro Castellanos was next, and he followed with a two-run single to extend the lead to 8-0 in favor of the home team.

Connor Seabold dazzled as the Worcester starter, working seven full innings for the third time in his Triple-A career. The right-hander did not allow a run or walk, allowing three hits with seven strikeouts to improve to 7-1 for the WooSox.

In the end offensively, eight of the nine Worcester starters recorded a hit, including multi-hit nights from Enmanuel Valdez, Wong, Casas, Castellanos and Nick Sogard.

Abraham Almonte brought home the ninth and final run of the night for the WooSox in the fifth, an RBI groundout that scored Nick Sogard.

A.J. Politi allowed the lone Buffalo run in the eighth on an Otto Lopez RBI groundout. Lopez' 20-game hit streak, the longest in the International League this year, was snapped after an 0-for-4 night.

Frank German delivered a 1-2-3 ninth inning, including a strikeout of Blue Jays' top prospect Gabriel Moreno. Thirteen of German's last 16 outings have been scoreless, and the right-hander has now struck out 29 over his last 21.1 innings of work.

The WooSox continue the six-game series at Polar Park on Thursday at 6:45 p.m. against the Buffalo Bisons, affiliate of Toronto Blue Jays. Radio coverage is live at 6:25 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network, while television coverage is on NESN+.
