
Storm Chasers Put Up Six Runs but Drop Series Opener to the Saints

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Omaha Storm Chasers dropped the series opener to the St. Paul Saints 10-6 on Tuesday from CHS field. Omaha (58-65) snaps a three-game winning streak as St. Paul (60-62) opens a 1-0 series lead.
Left-hander Josh Dye got the spot start for the Storm Chasers, starting in just his fifth game of the season. The Saints jumped out to an early lead, getting a three-run homer from Chris Williams to put the score at 3-0 after one inning of play.
Omaha put their first run on the board in the second, using a groundout from designated hitter Jakson Reetz to score right fielder Brewer Hicklen. Hicklen reached on a walk, now with the longest on-base streak by a Storm Chaser at 31 games.
St. Paul used an RBI walk from Williams and an RBI single from Mark Contreras to put the score at 5-1 after the second.
Third baseman Nick Loftin hit a solo home run in the third to cut the Saints lead to three runs.
Billy Hamilton scored in the bottom of the fourth on a wild pitch to put the score at 6-2 in favor of St. Paul.
The Storm Chasers put up a four-spot in the top of the sixth to knot the score at 6-6. First baseman Logan Porter hit a double to score center fielder Nate Eaton from second base. Second baseman Clay Dungan hit a double to score another run before shortstop Maikel Garcia reached on a Saints fielding error to plate Dungan.
The Saints used an RBI double from Contreras to retake the lead in the bottom of the sixth. St. Paul used an RBI single before capitalizing on an Omaha error to put the score at 9-6 heading to the seventh inning. The Saints added another run in the eight on Omaha's third error of the game.
The Storm Chasers hit a pair of hard-hit balls in the ninth, but neither was able to fall for a hit as the Storm Chasers drop game one 10-6.
Omaha and St. Paul will play game two on Wednesday with first pitch set for 7:07 p.m. Coverage is set to start at 6:45 p.m. on the on the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone. The Storm Chasers are scheduled to start left-hander Marcelo Martinez (3-5, 6.28) while the Saints look to send right-hander Louie Varland to the hill.
After this road trip to St. Paul, Omaha will return to Werner Park for a seven-game series against the Indianapolis Indians. The series opener against the Indians is slated for 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6.
