(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Despite a late-inning power surge, the Charlotte Knights dropped the opening game of a six-game series against the Durham Bulls by a score of 9-6 on Wednesday night from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. The Knights used the long ball in Wednesday's game, hitting four home runs on the night.

Charlotte right fielder Micker Adolfo continued his hitting and extended his hit streak to 12 games with a solo home run in the second inning. The home run was his 12th of the season and it gave the Knights a 1-0 lead at that point. It was Charlotte's only lead of the game.

RHP Jason Bilous (0-3, 11.20) started for the Knights and allowed five runs on five hits over 2.2 innings pitched. Bilous gave up all five runs in the top of the third inning, which gave the Bulls a 5-1 lead at that point. The Bulls hit two home runs in the five-run inning, most notably a grand slam from René Pinto.

Chicago White Sox LHP Aaron Bummer began his major league rehab assignment and tossed a scoreless fourth inning for the Knights. RHP Lincoln Henzman then allowed two runs in the fifth and RHP J.B. Olson allowed two runs in the sixth out of the Charlotte bullpen.

Down by a score of 7-1, second baseman Lenyn Sosa launched his sixth home run of the season with the Knights in the sixth inning. The two-run blast was his 20th overall home run of the 2022 season. Two innings later, designated hitter Blake Rutherford launched his 13th home run of the season, a solo shot. Finally, in the ninth inning, left fielder Tyler Neslony launched his first career Triple-A home run.

The Knights will continue the series against the Durham Bulls (Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte on Thursday afternoon.
