Martinez Deals as Omaha Takes 5-1 Win in St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Left-hander Marcelo Martinez started the game strong for Omaha and the bullpen finished it off as the Storm Chasers even the series against the Saints. Omaha won 5-1 over St. Paul on Wednesday from CHS field, giving the Storm Chasers an 11-9 season series lead.

The game started off as a pitcher's duel, with Martinez earning six strikeouts through the first three innings while keeping St. Paul off the scoreboard.

Catcher Jakson Reetz plated the game's first run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth to score third baseman Nick Loftin and give Omaha the lead.

The Storm Chasers got another run when center fielder Dairon Blanco took the first pitch of the fifth inning and sent it over the outfield fences for his 11th home run of the season.

St. Paul capitalized on a passed ball to score their first run of the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Omaha used a single from second baseman Iván Castillo to score first baseman Logan Porter and put the Storm Chasers ahead 3-1 through six and a half innings.

Martinez (Win, 4-5) would go 6.0 innings and tie a season high in strikeouts with nine. He allowed just one unearned run while scattering seven hits.

Right fielder Brewer Hicklen extended his Storm Chasers era record on-base streak with a double in the eighth, scoring Lofting from second. Blanco earned his second extra-base hit of the night with an RBI double to push Hicklen across the plate and put the score at 5-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth.

Right-handers Ryan Weiss, Ándres Núñez, and Wyatt Mills each tossed a scoreless inning to finish the 5-1 win for Omaha.

The Storm Chasers and Saints are set to square off on Thursday in game three. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. with coverage starting at 6:45 p.m. on the on the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone. Omaha is set to start left hander Drew Parrish (3-6, 5.13) while St. Pail is scheduled to start Ronny Henriquez.

After this road trip to St. Paul, Omaha will return to Werner Park for a seven-game series against the Indianapolis Indians. The series opener against the Indians is slated for 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6.
