South Carolina Stingrays News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC South Carolina Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that Trevor Johnson has been cleared to play tonight by team doctors. Johnson has been out of the Stingrays lineup since suffering a broken leg on November 4th against the Greenville Grrrowl at the Coliseum.

"Having Trevor back in the lineup is going to be a big help to our team instantly," commented Fitzsimmons. "Trevor is a quality leader both on and off the ice. Our defense has been banged up in recent weeks and he should be able to give us some quality minutes right away."

Johnson came to the Stingrays as a free agent before the 2000-01 season and helped the team to its second Kelly Cup Championship that year. His hard work and leadership on and off the ice was recognized last season when he was given the team captaincy.

The Davidson, Saskatchewan native has been a consistent performer in his four seasons in South Carolina. Last season he scored six goals and added 15 assists for 21 points and 200 penalty minutes. His professional career began with two seasons in Hampton Roads with the Admirals of the ECHL in 1998-99. A former captain of the Moose Jaw Warriors, Johnson stands 6'-2" and weighs 200lbs.

The Stingrays will drop the puck against the Gwinnett Gladiators tonight at 7:05. The Rays will play at home this Friday and Saturday night as well against the Columbia Inferno and the Pee Dee Pride.
