Idaho Steelheads News Release
Biloxi, MS - The Idaho Steelheads picked up a valuable point as they suffered a 3-2 shootout loss to the Mississippi Sea Wolves at the Coast Coliseum in the first-ever meeting of the two teams. In the fourth game of a season-long eight-game road trip, Idaho has now claimed 6 of a possible 8 points as they continue their playoff push.
Mississippi scored first on a power play tally from Nick Greenough who redirected a shot as he was parked in front of the net at 5:30. The Sea Wolves took a two-goal lead at 10:57 when ECHL career-leading scorer Louis Dumont had the puck deflect off his skate and past Steelheads' netminder Frank Doyle. On the power play, just as a two-man advantage had expired, Billy Tibbetts closed the gap to one with his 8th of the season as he beat Philippe Sauve at 15:09.
Despite power play opportunities for both teams, neither could score in the second period. Idaho outshot the Wolves 8-5 in the period, and held an 18-12 lead in shots after two.
In the third, Brett Draney converted a nice one-touch pass from Bobby Russell and beat Sauve five-hole, to knot the game at two apiece. The power play goal, Idaho's second of the game, came at 9:18 of the third period, and sent the game to a four-on-four, sudden-death overtime.
Scott Burt had a golden breakaway opportunity three-minutes into the extra period, but Sauve made a huge save. With 1:55 remaining, the Steelheads were called for a minor penalty giving the Sea Wolves an extra attacker, but to no avail. The game was sent to a shootout and of nine shooters, only Mississippi's Kerry Ellis-Toddington found the back of the net for the win.
