Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gladiators picked up goals from Mike Vigilante, Lane Manson and Andrew Oke but it wasn't enough to get past the South Carolina Stingrays in a 4-3 loss on Tuesday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.
Matt Ardelan gave the Stingrays a 1-0 lead 5:29 into the opening period taking a centering feed and beating Gladiators netminder Sean Fields for the goal. Matt Reid picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and slid the puck across to Ardelan in the slot on a 2-on-1 break to give the Stingrays the early lead.
South Carolina extended their lead to 2-0 with a breakaway goal by Matt Reid 8 seconds into the second period. Reid was able to spin away from a Gladiators defenseman along the blue line and walk in on the break. Trevor G. Johnson and Joe Tenute added the assists on the tally.
Mike Vigilante got the Gladiators on the board jamming home a centering pass from Jeff Campbell cutting the South Carolina lead in half at 7:04 of the second period.
Andrew Oke tied the game at two, later in the period keeping a clearing attempt in at the blue line and ripping a slapshot past South Carolina netminder Justin Eddie. Peter Flache picked up an assist on the goal at 11:56 of the third period.
The Stingrays regained the lead at 17:47 of the third period with a slap shot by Cam McCaffrey that eluded Fields from the left wing circle. Nate Kiser added an assist on the goal for the Stingrays.
Lane Manson tied the game up at 3-3 just moment's later with his 5th tally of the season. Manson's initial shot was deflected straight in the air and landed behind Eddy and into the back of the net. Mike Stathopoulos added an assist on the goal at 18:34 of the second period.
South Carolina took the only lead they would need 8:06 into the third period as Brad Parsons ripped a snap shot from the slot past Fields for the goal. Threw the puck into the slot to a wide-open Parsons to pick up an assist on the game-winning goal.
Sean Fields made 33 saves in the loss as the Gladiators fall to 31-19-8 on the season.
