Florida beats Salmon Kings 7-1

Fort Myers, FL – 74 degrees at night, 82 or 83 in the day and only slightly overcast. The Victoria Salmon Kings started their final 12 games of their inaugural year, in Fort Myers, Florida, "I need vacation" was playing the background.

It is no vacation though playing the second place Florida Everblades. The Everblades are only trailing division rivals Pensacola Ice Pilots in the American Conference. The Everblades have 78 points and are nine back of the Conference leaders.

The Salmon Kings started in a hole on Tuesday night that they were never able to dig themselves out of. Seventeen seconds into the game Everblades forward David Lundholm scored his thirteenth of the season. Lundholm's goal was followed by Brent McDonalds nineteenth, Damian Surma's team leading 29th and Reggie Berg's seventeenth, short-handed, to send the Everblades to the break up by four.

In the second the Salmon Kings faired no better. At 5:57 Chris Lee notched his fourth of the season on the powerplay with Kris Vernarsky and Matt Pagnutti following suit, even strength, and it was 7-0 at the second intermission.

Goaltender Jaime McCaig started the game for the Salmon Kings and was replaced after the first three goals by counterpart Rob Muntain. McCaig was needed again in the third as Muntain left the game with an apparent injury to his blocker hand. Also leaving the game for the Salmon Kings was forward/defenseman Chris Corrinet suffering from flu symptoms, and Alexey Glukhov.

With 1:19 left in third period Scott Turner scored his sixth goal as a Salmon King, assisted by newcomer Scott Borders and defenseman Kurtis Dulle.

The Everblades beat the Salmon Kings 7-1. Victoria continues on their eight game road trip when they play the Texas Wildcatters on Thursday night.
