March 15, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. â The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the New York Islanders, have announced the acquisition of center Shawn Mather from Johnstown in exchange for future considerations. Mather is expected to make his Bullies debut on Thursday when Atlantic City travels to Wheeling.
Mather, 25, is currently tied for the Chief's scoring lead with 19 goals and 43 points through 56 games. The Chatham, ON native leads Johnstown with five game-winning goals, including one on December 11 at Historic Boardwalk Hall where he scored 16 seconds into overtime to lead the Chiefs to a 5-4 victory over the Bullies. Mather began his professional career in 2001-02 with the New Orleans Brass playing for current Bullies Vice President and General Manager Dan Belisle. The four-year professional has tallied 66 goals and 156 points in 255 career games.
"Shawn has been one of the premier players in the ECHL over the last four years," said Belisle. "His experience and leadership will prove to be valuable assets in our efforts to lock down a Kelly Cup Playoff berth."
"We're excited to bring aboard a player of Mather's caliber," said Head Coach Matt Thomas. "He's been one of the prolific offensive players in this division over the last two seasons and will certainly add to the dynamics of our team."
The Bullies continue their season-long nine-day, five game road trip at 7:30PM at Hobart Arena in Troy, OH against the Dayton Bombers. Catch all the action live on ESPN Radio 1450AM and the SurferNetwork beginning with "Bullies Countdown" at 7:10PM.
Atlantic City returns to Historic Boardwalk Hall at 7:05PM on Friday as they welcome the Peoria Rivermen. For more information or to order tickets, call (609) 348-PUCK.
