Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - Fittingly demonstrating the power of social media in 2013, the TinCaps' Social Media Night jerseys have gone viral. As part of Social Media Night at Parkview Field on Thursday, June 13, at 7:05 p.m. against the Lake County Captains, Fort Wayne will wear jerseys featuring the handles of more than 6,000 of their Twitter followers.

After the TinCaps released a preview of the jerseys through their Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Vine accounts on Tuesday, ESPN's official Twitter account took notice Wednesday. @ESPN, which has more than 6.5 million followers, tweeted, "Followers of the @TinCaps aren't just fans anymore. They are literally part of the team." The @ESPN tweet included a link to the TinCaps' Vine video flashing multiple shots of the jersey.

Additionally, on Tuesday, ESPN Sports Business Reporter and Business Correspondent Darren Rovell also tweeted out the Vine video of Fort Wayne's Social Media Night jerseys. Rovell's Twitter account, @darrenrovell, is followed by more than 350,000.

"We like to say that Fort Wayne TinCaps baseball is ‘All About You,'" TinCaps Vice President of Marketing Michael Limmer said. "With these Social Media Night jerseys, we took that expression to heart and made the jerseys all about our fans and followers. They've always had the back of our organization. Now we're giving back to them on Social Media Night by putting them on the players' backs."

The TinCaps' marketing department came up with the concept of the jerseys in the offseason and used the handles of those following @TinCaps as of March 11 for the jerseys, which were produced by Wilson Sporting Goods. The jerseys are white, with "@TinCaps" printed in red across the chest, and the green-printed Twitter handles adorned throughout.

Fans who go to Social Media Night at Parkview Field will have the chance to win the unique jerseys through contests on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, QRReader, and Foursquare.
