Burlington Bees News Release
Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees are happy to announce that Alex Keudell and Ryan Crowley have been named to the 2013 Midwest League All-Star team. Both pitchers will represent the Bees at the 2013 MWL Summer All-Star Classic on June 18th at Fifth Third Field in Dayton, Ohio.
Keudell has put together a stellar 4-1 record with a 3.04 ERA. He has made nine starts for Burlington, allowing only 46 hits in 56.1 innings. He has held opponents to a .221 batting average, while striking out 39 batters. The Beaverton, Oregon native signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on March 31st, 2013, after being released three days prior by the Tampa Bay Rays. The former University of Oregon ace was selected in the 27th round by the Rays in 2012. In his 2012 campaign for rookie-level Princeton, Keudell was 3-4 with a 2.28 ERA in 16 appearances.
Crowley is in his second year in the Midwest League, after beginning the 2012 season with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. He has been stellar in 2013, compiling a 4-1 record and a 2.22 ERA. In his nine games, eight of which have been starts, he has allowed 37 hits and only 11 walks in 48.2 innings. Crowley was selected in the 19th round of the 2011 draft by the Angels out of Northwest Florida State College. The Berwyn, Illinois native is fifth in the league in ERA, 4th in WHIP, 4th in opponent's batting average and 2nd in fewest baserunners allowed per nine innings.
"It is a very deserved honor for both Ryan and Alex. Their numbers speak for themselves. They are both competitors and every night I know we have a chance to win when those two go out and pitch," said Bees manager Jamie Burke.
