Rickard Drives in a Pair in Loss to Dragons
June 5, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - Joey Rickard's two runs batted in were not enough for the Bowling Green Hot Rods (30-28), who fell to the Dayton Dragons (25-33) 5-3 in game one of a three-game set Wednesday night at Bowling Green Ballpark. Leonardo Reginatto and Andrew Toles each had two hits, and Matt Spann hurled 3.1 relief innings without allowing an earned run in his Hot Rods debut.
The Dragons jumped on the Hot Rods early, posting a 4-0 lead through the first four innings. The first three Dayton runs came in by the slimmest of margins, as all were scored with two strikes and two outs. Junior Arias' solo home run off Blake Snell in the second inning placed the Dragons into the lead for good.
The Hot Rods finally graced the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning when Rickard brought in the team's first run on the first of his two sacrifice flies on the night. Reginatto followed the sacrifice fly with an RBI single down the line in left field. After cutting the lead to 4-2, a Hot Rods error allowed the Dragons to take a 5-2 lead in the very next half inning.
Bowling Green's offense managed one more run on the night, stranding seven runners over the final three innings. In the bottom of the ninth, Justin O'Conner grounded out to shortstop with the tying run at second base.
Game two of this three-game series is scheduled for Thursday night at 7:05 PM at Bowling Green Ballpark. The Hot Rods will give the start to RHP Dylan Floro (3-2, 2.30), while the Dragons will counter with RHP Sal Romano (4-5, 4.47). The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Hank Fuerst and Chris Kleinhans-Schulz begins at 6:35 PM CDT on the Hot Rods Radio Network (1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM and 1340WBGN.com).
Thursday night is another Thrifty Thursday at the ballpark presented by All-Hut WUHU 107 and Beaver 96.7 FM. Fans can enjoy $2 food and drink specials through the end of the seventh inning.
