Clinton LumberKings News Release

Peoria, IL - The same old story played for the Clinton LumberKings in the series opener against the Peoria Chiefs on Wednesday night. Clinton's 1-0 lead in the sixth inning evaporated quickly and the LumberKings fell 4-1 at Dozer Park. In 12 of their last 19 losses, Clinton has held the lead at some point in the game.

The offense was quiet for Clinton but a Jordy Lara double and Tim Lopes single put runners at the corners in the third. Peoria starter Cory Jones unleashed his only mistake of the night, a wild pitch to score Lara to give Clinton a 1-0 lead.

LumberKings hurler Dylan Unsworth was dominant through the first five innings against the Chiefs. Peoria had just three hits and didn't advance a run past first in Unsworth's first five frames.

Trouble hit in the sixth when Jesus Montero hit the first pitch of the sixth inning out to left to tie the game at 1-1. After Unsworth retired hot-hitting Breyvic Valrea, he allowed a single to Ildamaro Vargas and a double to Jacob Wilson to put runners at second and third. Clinton brought the infield in but it didn't matter as Jordan Walton lined a pitch into the left-center field gap to deliver both runs.

From there, the Chiefs added an insurance run in the eighth. The offense never kicked into gear as the LumberKings were held to four hits for the second straight game.

Jones got the win for Peoria and improved to 2-0 and Unsworth was dealt his first loss of the season, dropping to 4-1. With zero walks, Unsworth has pitched 52 1/3 consecutive innings without issuing a free pass. His last walk came against Cedar Rapids on April 14th .

The two teams continue the series on Thursday night. The LumberKings send left-hander Tyler Pike (3-3, 2.85) to the mound against Peoria right-hander Tyrell Jenkins (4-3, 3.99). Both were named to the Western Division Midwest League All-Star Game on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM CT.
