Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce a series of roster moves that include RHP Tyler Duffey and RHP Manuel Soliman being promoted to the Fort Myers Miracle; RHP Christian Powell will join the Kernels from Extended Spring Training and the Twins have signed RHP Caleb Brewer as a minor league free agent. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.
The Twins selected Powell in the eighth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of the College of Charleston. In 10 relief appearances at Elizabethton, he posted a 1-0 record and one save with a 5.74 ERA. In 15.2 IP, he allowed 18 hits and 11 runs (ten earned) with seven walks and 20 strikeouts.
Caleb Brewer was originally drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 14th round of the 2007 First Year Player Draft and started the 2013 season with the Lynchburg Hillcats of the of the Carolina League. This season he has an 0-1 record and 4.01 ERA in 15 relief appearances, allowing 29 hits and 15 runs (11 earned) with 12 walks and 18 strikeouts in 24.2 IP.
Tyler Duffey had made nine starts for the Kernels in 2013, with a 3-2 record and 2.78 ERA. In 58.1 IP, he allowed 49 hits and 19 runs (18 earned) with six walks and 47 strikeouts. He was the Twins fifth round selection of the 2012 First Year Player Draft.
Manuel Soliman 17 relief appearances for the Kernels, with a 3-1 record, 5.28 ERA and one save. In 29 IP he allowed 29 hits and 21 runs (17 earned) with 18 walks and 28 strikeouts. He was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent in 2007.
Powell and Brewer will join the Kernels in Cedar Rapids and be active and avaialbe for tonight's 6:35 pm game with the Quad Cities River Bandits. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with two players currently on the disabled list.
The Kernels begin a six game home stand tonight at Perfect Game Field by hosting the Quad Cities River Bandits at 6:35 pm. The upcoming home stand continues through Monday, June 10th.
