Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds clinched the first series win of 2022 in the fifth game of a six-game series with the Durham Bulls at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park by the final score of 11-4 on Saturday night.
Much like Friday night's shutout victory, the Redbirds earned the win on home runs and stellar starting pitching. Memphis starter Johan Oviedo (2-2) pitched seven innings of shutout baseball, struck out eight Bulls and allowed just one walk.
On the hitting side, the Redbirds belted five home runs for the third time this season and second time in the series. Memphis received blasts from first baseman Juan Yepez (twice), catcher Ivan
Herrera, second baseman Nolan Gorman and right fielder Conner Capel.
Saturday night marked the second time this season that Juan Yepez recorded a multi-homer game and the seventh time in his career. Gorman's homer extended his hitting streak to 16 games, a career high for the St. Louis Cardinals No. 2 prospect.
Brandon Waddell came in from the bullpen to calm things down in the bottom of the eighth inning, recording the final out of the inning. Waddell would go on to finish the game and record his first save of the season.
The Memphis Redbirds (13-10) return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina for game five of the six-game series on Saturday night at 4:05 p.m. CDT to take on the Durham Bulls (8-15).
