Indianapolis Indians News Release

DES MOINES, Iowa - Ji-Hwan Bae recorded a career-high five hits and was a triple away from the cycle as the Indianapolis Indians tied up the series against the Iowa Cubs through four games on Friday night, 8-1.

Bae went 5-for-6 with two doubles and a home run as the only Indians batter to record an extra-base hit. In addition to setting a new career-high in base knocks, Bae scored a career-high tying three runs for the first time since Sept. 4, 2021 at Double-A Akron. It was also his second career game with three extra-base hits (also: Aug. 8, 2021 at Akron).

After roping a double in the third inning to come around and score the first Indians (11-10) run, Bae launched a solo home run to left field off Matt Dermody (L, 1-1) for his second dinger in as many games. It was the second time in Bae's career that he homered in back-to-back games, the last coming from July 28-29, 2021 at Double-A Harrisburg.

Four Indianapolis runs scored at the hands of I-Cubs (11-10) pitchers in the sixth inning to extend the lead, 6-0. With two outs and one run already in, a bases-loaded walk and two wild pitches with Mason Martin at the plate drove in three additional Indians baserunners. Four batters reached base safely without recording a hit in the frame.

With two outs in the top of the ninth, Bae lined his second double of the night into the left-field corner to score a pair of additional insurance runs and extend the lead to eight.

Indianapolis' pitching staff held a shutout into the ninth inning, but with one out and two runners on base, Esteban Quiroz singled home the lone Iowa run of the game. Cody Bolton surrendered two hits in 3.0 scoreless innings to start, and Cam Alldred (W, 1-1) and Eric Hanhold followed with 4.0 two-hit innings.

The Indians and I-Cubs will face off again tomorrow night at 7:08 PM ET. For the Indians, RHP Roansy Contreras (0-0, 2.70) will make his second start of the season after fanning five batters over 3.1 innings on April 24. RHP Robert Gsellman (1-0, 0.69) will take the mound for Iowa.
