
Bulls Get Hot Late, But Can't Overcome Redbirds

The Durham Bulls (8-15) fell to the Memphis Redbirds (13-10) 11-4 on Saturday night in game five of the six-game series at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. With the loss, Memphis clinches the series win.
After a scoreless first three innings, the Redbirds got on the scoreboard first on a solo home run from 1B Juan Yepez. After Memphis CF Scott Hurst scored off a passed ball, 2B Nolan Gorman would go the distance at the plate on a solo shot and C Ivan Hererra would go yard in the sixth for a 4-0 lead. SS Evan Mendoza would stretch the Memphis lead to six with an RBI single and the team would add another run off of a walk by DH Kramer Robertson to go up 7-0.
Durham would come alive in the eighth off an RBI groundout from 1B Jim Haley, followed by an RBI double from RF Miles Mastrobuoni. The team would remain hot at the plate as 2B Jonathan Aranda would join the RBI party with a single and DH Ryan Boldt would put together an RBI double to trim the lead to 7-4.
Yepez would go the distance again at the plate for Memphis to put the lead back to four in the ninth. RF Connor Capel connected on a three-run blast to make the score 11-4.
Bulls C David Rodriguez and Mastrobuoni both extended their hitting streaks to eight games as they both had one hit apiece, and LF Cal Stevenson led Durham in hits with two, and has reached base in 13 straight games.
Redbirds pitcher Johan Oviedo threw seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits, picking up the win. Bulls pitcher Christofer Ogando threw 2.2 innings, allowing four runs on three hits, and pitcher Calvin Faucher went 1.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits, picking up the loss.
The Bulls will be back in action on Sunday for the series finale against the Redbirds. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. at the DBAP. RHP Robert Dugger (0-2,3.94) is expected to start on the mound for the Bulls and LHP Zack Thompson (1-0,3.98) is scheduled to start for the Redbirds.
