Buffalo Bisons News Release

WORCESTER, MA - Playing in the second-to-last game of this six-game series, the Buffalo Bisons defeated the Worcester Red Sox 9-7 in 10 innings at Polar Park in what was a wild back-and-forth affair.

Thomas Hatch lasted five innings and gave up four runs off seven hits, but struck out a season-high nine batters while walking just one. Hatch threw 103 pitches in this one - a pitfall of racking up so many K's - which passed teammate Nick Allgeyer for the most pitches thrown in a game across minor league baseball.

Jordan Groshans picked up right where he left off last night, driving in Dexter Fowler in the first off a sac fly to open the scoring, but the WooSox would answer with a pair of doubles from Jarren Duran and Triston Casas in their half to even the score. Duran then hit an RBI triple in his next at bat, his second straight multi-XBH day, before Casas would once again drive him in to put the WooSox up 3-1 after three.

The Bisons would answer in the following frame when Logan Warmoth cleared the bases with a three-run double to put the Herd up by one, but a solo home run by Ronaldo Hernández in the bottom half tied it up at four.

The score would remain knotted until the top of the seventh, where Nick Podkul delivered with a huge two-out base hit that scored a pair of runs to put the Herd up by two, but the lead was short-lived, as after a leadoff walk, Jeter Downs took Jeremy Beasley deep to tie the game up once again in the bottom half. The home run marks the first run Beasley has given up all season, ending what was an 11.2 scoreless-inning streak to begin the year.

After a scoreless eighth and ninth, the Bisons and WooSox headed to extras, where, with two on and two out in the top of the 10th, Samad Taylor doubled home both runners before advancing to third on the relay home. Then, with the lefthander Derek Holland's back facing third base, Taylor stole home on a delayed steal to put the Herd up 9-6. The WooSox would score one in their half, but the combo of Matt Gage and Adrian Hernandez ultimately sealed the win for the Herd.

The Bisons and WooSox will conclude their series tomorrow afternoon, with both Andrew Bash and Connor Seabold set to make their second start of the series. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. EST.
