Barrage of Hits Brings Chasers to Victory

PAPILLION, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (10-12) had 14 hits and out powered the Toledo Mud Hens (10-11) Saturday night to a score of 12-5.

Vinnie Pasquantino hit a 380 foot two-run shot in the first inning that scored Nick Pratto and gave Omaha an early 2-0 lead against Nivaldo Rodriguez (Loss, 1-1).

In the second inning, Dairon Blanco hit a two-run home run that just kept carrying to center. The home runs in the second inning didn't stop there, Nick Pratto crushed a 461 foot two-run bomb to right-center. Brewer Hicklen would then join the hit parade, he hit an RBI double that scored Vinnie Pasquantino and brought the lead to 7-0. Before the second inning was over Toledo pulled Rodriguez and brought Shea Spitzbarth into the game to close out the inning.

Hicklen got the runs going in the fourth by hitting an RBI single to score Nick Pratto. The hits would just keep coming as Gabriel Cancel singled to score Vinnie Pasquantino. The next batter was JaCoby Jones who hit a sac-fly to score Hicklen, which brought the game to 10-0.

Jonathan Heasley gave up a double to Ryan Lavarnway in the fifth, which was just his third hit allowed in the game. John Valente then hit an RBI single that scored Ryan Lavarnway and the runs didn't stop there for the Mud Hens. Zack Short hit an RBI double into the left-field corner, which chased Heasley out of the game. Foster Griffin (Win, 2-0) would be brought in to try to get out of the inning. He gave up an infield single to Kody Clemens, which brought Short home and the score was then 10-4.

In the top of the sixth inning, Austin Cox (Save) was brought in and allowed an RBI groundout to Lavarnway, which scored Josh Lester, who hit a double to lead off the inning. Cox would get out of the inning with the score being 10-5.

In the bottom of the eighth, Brewer Hicklen hit the Chasers' fourth home run of the night and it was another two-run shot to grow Omaha's lead, to 12-5.

Austin Cox would finish out the game and earn his first professional save.

The Storm Chasers continue their series against the Mudhens on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. and coverage begins at 1:50 p.m. with the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone.
