Norfolk Tides News Release

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga., --- The Norfolk Tides (12-11) were shut out by the Gwinnett Stripers (10-13), 5-0, on Saturday night. It was the second straigh game the Tides failed to score a run in a nine-inning game.

Gwinnett never looked back after taking a 1-0 lead in the first. Preston Tucker hit a sacrifice fly to make the only lead change of the game. Their biggest inning was in the bottom of the third when Greyson Jenista started with an RBI single. The other two runs were scored on a two-run triple by Ryan Casteel to make it 3-0, Gwinnett.

The final run of the game was scored in the bottom of the fifth by Gwinnett when Hernan Perez hit his first home run of the season to left center field. That would prove to be the dagger, as Norfolk lost, 5-0. It was the first home run of the season for Gwinnett, and the first run allowed this season by Tides reliever Marcos Diplan.

The series finale is set for tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m. RHP Grayson Rodriguez (2-0, 2.45) will take the mound for Norfolk. Gwinnett has not yet named a starter. It will be the final game before Norfolk gets an off-day on Monday and head to Nashville for a six-game road trip.

POSTGAME NOTES

NEUSTROM STAYS HOT: With a 1-for-4 performance tonight, Robert Neustrom extended his hitting streak to six games...during the streak, he's hitting .455 (10-for-22) with a double, two home runs, five RBI, two walks (.500 OBP) and four stolen bases.

DOUBLE TROUBLE: After getting the team-lead tied by Richie Martin last night, Kyle Stowers regained the lead with his seventh double of the season...the seven doubles is good for tied-for-ninth in the International League.

BACK-TO-BACK SHUTOUTS: The Tides have been shutout in back-to-back games, the first time since 2019...they were shutout in a doubleheader at Charlotte on April 9, 2019 where they lost 4-0, 3-0 respectively...they also lost game two vs. Buffalo on June 21 and at Buffalo on June 22, 2019 where they lost 1-0, 3-0 respectively...the last time Norfolk lost back-to-back nine-inning games by shutout was back in 2016 when they did so twice: April 14 - 15 (5-0, 10-0) at Gwinnett and May 1 at Indianapolis (4-0) and May 2 at Louisville (1-0)...the Tides have not scored since the top of the ninth on Thursday, April 28.

TIDE TRENDS: After a hot start, the Tides have slowed their roll...they've lost seven of their last nine games (since April 21), giving them the worst record in the International League in that span and the worst record in all of Triple-A (Tacoma is also 2-6, who play Las Vegas at 10:05 p.m. ET tonight)...this comes after recording one of the best starts in franchise history as an Orioles affiliate, where they started 10-4 prior to the current skid.
