Stingrays Set ECHL Record with Shutout over Evansville

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays (45-20-1-6) set a new ECHL single-season record with their 12th shutout of the campaign, taking down the Evansville IceMen (15-48-6-3) 3-0 in front of 8,177 at the North Charleston Coliseum Saturday evening to wrap up the regular season. Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis earned his career-best seventh shutout making 25 saves and forward Derek DeBlois added two goals.

Stingrays forward Patrick Gaul broke the scoreless tie 3:52 into the second period redirecting a pass from defenseman Jake Suter between the legs of IceMen goaltender Branden Komm (L, 32 saves on 35 shots). Forward Rob Bellamy added the second assist. For Suter, the assist is his first professional point.

DeBlois made it 2-0 early in the third period slipping a shot between the legs of Komm off the right-wing circle at 3:46. Forward Wayne Simpson and defenseman Michal Cajkovsky picked up assists. DeBlois sealed the victory with his team-leading 21st goal of the season at 9:13 from defenseman Drew MacKenzie and forward Andrew Rowe. Both sides finished 0-for-2 on the power play.
