Indy Fuel News Release

READING, PA - In the final game of the team's inaugural ECHL regular-season, the Indy Fuel were defeated by the Reading Royals on Saturday at Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania in a shootout by a final score of 2-1. With the shootout loss, the Fuel wrapped their season at 31-30-4-7 and with 74 points, were formally eliminated from playoff contention.

In a physical opening period, the Fuel weathered an early flurry of Reading scoring chances to claim a 1-0 lead at 6:59 when Nick Jones crept from the center point to tap home a one-time feed from Nicklas Lindberg and Peter Schnieder. In the second, Reading scratched across a tying goal at 11:41 when a slick, spinning centering pass from Sean Wiles found a trailing Maxim Lamarche in the right circle of the Fuel zone for the Royals defenseman's ninth of the year, the middle frame's lone goal.

After a scoreless third period and overtime frame, the Royals persevered in a four-round shootout as Ryan Cruthers, Pat Mullane and Adam Hughesman converted for Reading while Royals goaltender Connor Knapp followed a 34-save regulation performance with three stops in the shootout to claim a 2-1 victory. Indy goaltender Mac Carruth made 40 saves in defeat.

In 2014-15, the Indy Fuel, the proud "AA" affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and AHL's Rockford IceHogs, drop the puck on their first season in the ECHL.
