Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads and Foresters will hold their annual Champions for Kids Night Sports Memorabilia & Jersey Auction on Friday, December 5th and Saturday, December 6th to benefit the St. Luke's Children's Hospital. The auction, presented by Foresters, will be held during the reigning ECHL's Kelly Cup Champion Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies first-ever visit to the Bank of America Centre. Both games begin at 7:05 p.m.

The Idaho Steelheads will be wearing one-of-a-kind jerseys, designed by St. Luke's Children's Hospital patient Jackie Thurman (see below) during home games on December 5th and 6th. Fans can place a bid and win their favorite players jerseys right off their backs!

Other items available at the auction will include sports memorabilia signed by national sports celebrities such as Karl Malone, Steve Young, the Dallas Stars, Eric Lindros, Peter Forsberg, and more.

Funds raised at the events will help build two Pediatric Operating Rooms at St. Luke's Children's Hospital. To date, the Steelheads and their fans have raised nearly $70,000 in support of the hospital. Last year, the auction raised $17,300.

The team and Steelheads mascot Bonk, will tour the hospital on Tuesday, December 2nd from 1:00-2:00 p.m. to visit children who benefit from the fundraising efforts. In addition, Jackie will meet and skate with the team after practice (11:30 a.m.) on Thursday, December 4th when she will unveil the jersey she designed to the players.

Jackie Thurman:

Twelve-year-old Jackie Thurman discovered she had cancer after detecting a lump on her stomach. Jackie was diagnosed with a germ cell tumor in July, and began receiving chemotherapy treatments at Mountain States Tumor Institute Pediatric Oncology. But even chemotherapy has not kept this active 6th grader down. Jackie enjoys riding horses, playing volleyball, and basketball. Thanks to the state-of-the-art facilities and top-notch physicians at St. Luke's, Jackie is now in remission and on her way to fulfilling her dreams of being a WNBA player.
