
Seven-Game Winning Streak Moves Columbia Atop Standings

Scoring five goals in the third period to post a 6-4 come-from-behind win at Gwinnett on Saturday, Columbia extended its winning streak to an ECHL season-high seven games and its road winning streak to four games, moving into first place in the Southern Division with a 13-3-2 record and 28 points. The Inferno began the week with a 9-1 win against Florence on Wednesday and beat Augusta 4-3 on Friday to extend its home winning streak to four games.
Columbia's 28 points ties it for the ECHL lead with Southern Division foe Florida (12-4-4) while the Inferno's 13 wins ties it for the ECHL lead with Johnstown and Idaho. Johnstown leads the Northern Division with 27 points and a 13-5-1 record while Idaho, which has won its last four games and is 8-2 in its last 10 games, is in first place in the Pacific Division with 26 points and a 13-7-0 record.
The Inferno will host Augusta on Friday and return to Gwinnett on Sunday. Columbia is 9-6-3 all-time against Augusta and 1-0-0 all-time against Gwinnett.
The seven consecutive wins ties the team record (October 11-November 15, 2002 and March 1-20, 2003) while the four consecutive road wins also ties the team record (November 16-30, 2002 and February 9-20, 2003). The team record for consecutive home wins is six games (January 31-February 13, 2003 and March 1-20, 2003).
The five goals in the third period against Gwinnett tied the ECHL season high for most goals in the third period set by Augusta in an 8-5 win against Florida on October 18. The nine goals against Florence ties the ECHL season high for goals in a game set November 9 by Wheeling with a 9-1 win against Dayton and Mississippi with a 9-4 win against Fresno and tied by Toledo on November 22 with a 9-3 win against Wheeling. The eight-goal margin of victory ties the league season high for winning margin set by Wheeling in its 9-1 win against Dayton on November 9.
Columbia was 9-1-1 in November and outscored its opponents 44-28. The Inferno opened the month with a 4-3 overtime win against Charlotte on November 1, but lost 3-2 to South Carolina on November 3. Columbia beat Greenville 2-1 in a shootout on November 7 and lost 4-3 in a shootout at Roanoke on November 8 before the current winning streak which includes a 4-3 overtime win at Columbus on November 22 and a 3-2 overtime win at Greenville on November 23.
Rob McVicar is 4-0-0 with a 1.57 goals against average and a .942 save percentage in his last four games, improving to 6-1-1 with a 2.72 goals against average and a .903 save percentage. Josh Blackburn is 3-0-0 with a 3.45 goals against average and a .897 save percentage in his last four starts, improving to 7-2-1 with a 2.47 goals against average and a .917 save percentage in 11 games.
Tim Smith had a team-leading 12 assists and 17 points in 11 games in November while Robin Carruthers ranked second with eight assists and 13 points in 11 games. Smith and Carruthers each scored five goals in November tying them for the monthly lead with Chris Pittman and Paul Cabana. Carruthers leads the Inferno with nine goals in 18 games while Smith leads the team with 17 assists and 24 points in 18 games.
IceGators Have Elite Special Teams
With the top power-play unit in the ECHL, the Louisiana IceGators have been steadily improving their penalty kill and after holding Texas scoreless on two power-play opportunities on Sunday have not allowed a power-play goal in four games. The IceGators have killed off 15 power-play chances during the streak to improve their penalty kill from 87.93 percent to 90.41 percent, climbing from fourth to second. In its first four games, Louisiana allowed three power-play goals in 19 chances and ranked 15th in penalty killing (84.21 percent), but in the last 13 games have allowed only four power-play goals in 54 chances (92.59 percent). In the first four games, the IceGators scored four power-play goals on 20 opportunities and ranked eighth in power-play percentage (20.0 percent), but in the last 13 games have scored 20 power-play goals in 64 opportunities (31.25 percent).
Johnstown has the top penalty-killing unit allowing eight power-play goals in 95 chances (91.57 percent), but ranks 22nd on the power play with 13.59 percent (14-for-103). Florence's power-play unit ranks second with 22 power-play goals in 91 opportunities (24.17 percent), bolstered by seven power-play goals in 21 opportunities (33.33 percent) in four games last week. The Pride ranks 27th on the penalty kill with 78.84 percent (82-for-104).
Dumont, Brown, Seitz Climb Career Lists
Mississippi's Louis Dumont became the all-time leading scorer in ECHL history on Thursday. Dumont ranks second in career assists, seventh in career games and eighth in career goals.
Gwinnett's Cam Brown, who did not play in 2002-03 while coaching Baton Rouge, ranks fourth in career games and career penalty minutes.

Grrrowl's Kirton Has 10-Point Week
After scoring five points (1g-4a) in the first 12 games, Greenville's Scott Kirton doubled his point production with two goals, including the game-winning goal, and three assists in a 6-3 win at Roanoke on Thursday. Kirton continued his offensive production with a goal against Gwinnett on Friday and added two more goals and two assists in an 8-5 win against Charlotte on Saturday, finishing the week with 10 points (5g-5a) in three games. Kirton, who has a four-game scoring streak (5g-6a) and a three-game goal streak (5g), has moved into a tie for the team lead with nine assists and one game-winning goal while ranking second with six assists and 15 points.
ECHL Draws Over 1,000,000 For 14th Straight Season
Including a season-high crowd of 7,231 in Bakersfield on Saturday, the ECHL went over the one million mark for 2003-04. In the first seven weeks of the season, the league has drawn 1,065,735 fans for 286 games and is averaging 3,726 fans per game, up more than 5 1/2 percent from 3,528 for 245 games in 2002-03.
Northern Division
Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies
* Scott Stirling is 10-5-0 and ranks fourth in the ECHL with a 1.73 goals against average.
* Bullies rank third in the ECHL in goals allowed with 2.11 goals per game.
* Atlantic City travels to Fresno on Tuesday, Las Vegas on Wednesday, and Idaho on Friday and Saturday.
Cincinnati Cyclones
* Tyler Masters is 2-0-0 with a 1.50 goals against average in his last two games.
* Ryan Brindley (6g-7a) and Garrett Prosofsky (6g-7a) lead the team with 13 points.
* Cincinnati hosts Toledo on Wednesday, Wheeling on Friday, and Greensboro on Saturday before traveling to Peoria on Sunday.
Dayton Bombers
* Jason Deskins leads the team with 10 goals and 15 points.
* Bombers' power play ranks 31st in the ECHL with 11.3 percent (8-for-71).
* Dayton hosts Greensboro on Friday, Trenton on Saturday and Toledo on Sunday.
Johnstown Chiefs
* Jason Notermann leads ECHL rookies with 10 goals and ranks second with 20 points.
* Chiefs rank second in the ECHL in goals allowed with 1.95 goals per game.
* Johnstown hosts Peoria on Friday and Saturday.
Peoria Rivermen
* Mike Valley is 2-0-0 with a 0.50 goals against average and a shutout after missing almost a month with a groin injury.
* Rivermen are tied for second in the ECHL with five shorthand goals.

Reading Royals
* Royals' power play (23.3 percent) and penalty kill (89.4 percent) rank third in the ECHL.
