December 1, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Louisiana IceGators News Release

Week in review: LA 5 TEX 1; PEN 2 LA 1 (SO); LA 4 PEN 0; LA 1 TEX 0

A busy week greeted Louisiana as the Gators played four games in five nights. The IceGators took three out of the four games, allowing only two goals in regulation. The Louisiana currently holds down second place in the Central Division of the Western Conference with a record of 12-4-1. Louisiana has 25 points, only two points behind first-place Gwinnett.

The weekend finished well for the IceGators on Sunday. Konstantin Kalmikov scored the game's only goal with the man-advantage and Frederic Cloutier turned aside 25 shots for his first shutout of the season in a 1-0 win over Texas at the Cajundome.

It would be the second home shutout of the weekend as the night before Derek Gustafson shutout the Pensacola Ice Pilots 4-0.
Kenny Corupe, Josh Mizerek, and Alex Materukhin each had a goal and assist in the victory.

Friday night, the evening ending in frustration as on the six round of their shootout, Pensacola's Andreas Holmqvist got one past Cloutier for a 2-1 shootout Ice Pilot win. Goalie Brian Eklund was up to the IceGator challenge stopping 50 Louisiana shots over regulation and overtime.

Brian Herbert scored the lone IceGator goal in regulation jamming home an Armands Berzins shot early in the second period.

Over the last three games, the two Louisiana netminders scoreless for 167:25, a new franchise record.

Wednesday night, the IceGators opened the week meeting new I-10 rival Texas for the second time in the new Ford Center. Jamie Johnson had his first multiple goal game and Gustafson allowed one goal on 28 shots as the Louisiana downed the Wildcatters 5-1.

Ben Kilgour, Ben Storey, and Alex Materukhin also found the back of the net in the victory.

On the week, the IceGators allowed only two goals in four games.

The shutout streak continues - IceGators goalies Frederic Cloutier and Derek Gustafson's shutout streak of 167:25 over the past three games (11/28-11/30) is a new franchise record (by quite a bit). Marc Magliarditi and Cloutier combined for a 143:40 stretch from 11/3-11/10 of 2001. Also only the fourth time in team history the IceGators have posted back-to-back shutouts. This coming Friday night, the duo will look to continue the streak when the ‘Gators face Texas.

Scoring Streaks come to an end - IceGators Kenny Corupe and Ben Storey saw their consecutive games with a point streaks come to an end this past week. Corupe's point streak went a career-best eleven games and included one assist in ten consecutive contest from October 24 - November 23. It ended Wednesday night in Texas. Meanwhile, Storey, who had one point in ten straight games, had his streak come to an end Friday night in Pensacola. The ten-game point streak is the longest of his career.

IceGators' scoring streak is franchise best - The IceGators have scored in 157 straight regular-season games, dating back to a 1-0 shootout loss to Mike Tamburro and Jackson at the Cajundome on October 17, 2001. That's the longest regular-season streak in team history by 21 contests. Louisiana went 135 games without being shut out from the franchise's first game, on October 13, 1995, to a 1-0 loss at Baton Rouge on March 22, 1997. In the team's current streak, they have been held to one goal in regulation on 21 occasions, including last night at the Cajundome against the Texas Wildcatters.

Louisiana wins with stingy D - IceGators are 10-0-1 when yielding two or fewer goals in a game. Louisiana moved into first in the ECHL in goals against this week, allowing 1.88 goals per game.

They can hold a lead - In the three-year Dave Farrish era, Louisiana has dropped just five games in regulation when leading after 40 minutes. The IceGators are 112-5-4 when taking a lead into the third period under Farrish. As amazing as those numbers are, consider this: Louisiana is 50-1-2 on the road when leading after 40 minutes, with the only blemish being a 3-2 loss in Peoria on January 4, 2001 - Farrish's first season.

‘Gators power play on top – Louisiana continues to have the top-ranked power-play unit in the ECHL at 28.6 percent. The IceGators went 1-4 against Texas last night. The goal was the game-winner. Louisiana has scored 24 goals in 84 attempts on the Louisiana Motors Pontiac Power Play. The IceGators have tallied a man-advantage goal in 14 of 17 games this season.

Big on Penalty Kill too-On the Acadiana Bottling Pepsi Penalty Kill, Louisiana is 66-of-73 (90.4 percent). The IceGators are now second in the ECHL in the category. They have been extremely stingy a man down of late killing off 39 of 41 shorthanded chances in their last nine games.

Community update - IceGators will visit the Dodson Elementary School on Thursday and Saturday, Clawd will visit the Zoo of Acadiana.
