Bridgeport Islanders News Release

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, had their four-game win streak in the season series with the league-leading Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins snapped with a 4-3 loss on the road Friday.

Wakes-Barre/Scranton grabbed a quick 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the game's first 1:49. Jonathan Filewich opened the scoring at the :17 mark with his 12th of the season off assists from Erik Christensen and Maxime Talbot while Ryan Stone netted his 11th just 1:32 later off assists from Matt Hussey and Stephen Dixon.

The Penguins made it 3-0 on a power-play goal by Christensen, his 13th tally overall on the year, off assists from Hussey and Noah Welch with 7:43 left in the first period, and the Sound Tigers pulled starting goaltender Frederic Cloutier in favor of Cody Rudkowsky at that point.

The Sound Tigers got on the scoreboard in historic fashion as Rob Collins tied Trent Hunter's all-time franchise scoring mark of 136 points by assisting on a five-on-three, power-play goal by Jeff Hamilton at the 15:44 mark to cut the deficit to 3-1. The assist was also the team-leading 30th on the season and franchise-record 92nd all-time for Collins. Wyatt Smith also assisted on the goal, which was the 13th of the year for Hamilton.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton netminder Dany Sabourin was named the AHL's Koho Goalie of the Month for January earlier in the day and showed why when he denied Sean Bergenheim on a penalty shot with 1:47 left in the opening frame. Referee Harry Dumas awarded the attempt after Bergenheim was hauled down while driving through the slot.

The Sound Tigers outshot the Penguins 14-10 in the first period and upped the advantage to 28-14 through two periods pulling to within striking distance along the way. Cole Jarrett took a cross-ice feed from Robert Nilsson and zipped a shot from the left circle and off the post for his third goal of the season with 5:13 left in the middle frame pulling the Sound Tigers to within 3-2.

The Sound Tigers went on a four-minute power play early in the third period, but it was Wilkes-Barre/Scranton who converted as Hussey notched a shorthanded goal, his 14th tally of the season and third point of the evening, on the back end of the kill at the 5:16 mark off assists from Dixon and Andy Schneider.

The Sound Tigers sliced the lead to 4-3 with 9:51 left to play when Paul Flache swatted home a loose puck at the side of the Penguins net off a rush up ice for his first goal of the year and with the team off assists from Ryan Caldwell and Matt Koalska.

A penalty to Steve Regier put Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on the advantage with 2:52 to play, but the Sound Tigers got the kill and pulled Rudkowsky in favor of an extra attacker just as the power play expired. The Sound Tigers then called timeout and had a pair of offensive-zone face-offs but could not score.

Hussey was the first star of the game, Christensen the second and Dixon the third. Sabourin made 36 saves to earn the win, Rudkowsky took the loss despite stopping 18 of the 19 shots he face and Cloutier had a no-decision with five saves. The Sound Tigers had a 39-27 shots on goal advantage and were 1 for 7 on the power play. The Penguins were 1 for 6 on the advantage.

The Sound Tigers will return to Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard to host the Providence Bruins tomorrow, Saturday, February 4th at 7:05 p.m. All Sound Tigers games are web-cast live at www.soundtigers.com.
