Stars lose in Manitoba

WINNIPEG, MB - The Iowa Stars and the Manitoba Moose met for the first time this season on Friday night. Despite jumping out to a 2-0 lead early in the first period, Iowa was unable to hold on to the lead, eventually falling 3-2.

Forward Toby Petersen hit the scoresheet first, scoring his 14th goal of the season. Petersen, Junior Lessard and Loui Eriksson pace the Stars with 14 goals apiece. Lessard and Eriksson earned the assists on Petersen's goal. Petersen now has points in four-straight games. Forward David Oliver gave Iowa a 2-0 lead just 3:51 into the first period with his 7th goal of the year. With an assist in Oliver's goal, Kyle Brodziak extended his point-streak to five-straight. The rookie has two goals and five assists in that span.

The Moose evened the score at two goals, scoring at 5:15 and 9:30 of the first period. Jesse Shultz, 24th and Adam Keefe, 1st scored for Manitoba. Captain Jimmy Roy was granted the first-ever penalty-shot against the Stars. The AHL All-Star scored the game-winning shorthanded goal at 8:54 of the third.

Stars goaltender Mike Smith faced 27 shots in the loss.
