April 11, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Iowa Chops News Release

The ending of the season wasn't what the Iowa Chops wanted, as the Quad City Flames spoiled the Chops season finale with a 5-3 defeat, but the night of recognition and awareness on Saturday was hard to ignore as a new record crowd of 12,136 fans watched the Chops finish their inaugural season.

The Chops started out the game on the right note as rookie Macgregor Sharp scored his first professional goal five minutes into the game with assists to Matt Beleskey and Ryan Dingle. The Flames would strike back with two goals late in the period to take a 2-1 lead to the lockerroom.

The 2nd period began with the Flames increasing the lead to 3-1 as Chops goaltender JP Levasseur faced the constant pressure. However, a Chops flourish of two goals in :14 seconds tied the game at 3-3. The first was by Petri Kontiola on a great pass from Ajay Baines. The second off the stick of Eric Boguniecki, who completed a nice pass from newcomer Nicolas Deschamps and Brian Salcido.

The Flames however, would score the final two goals of the game to stop the Chops in the regular season finale, 5-3. JP Levasseur, who finished the season starting the final five Chops games, finished with 30 saves. The Chops finished the season with an even .500 record at 33-33-4-10. The West Divsion could finish as the only division in the AHL this season to have every team finish .500 or better.
