Flames close out 2008-09 season with 5-3 win over Iowa

The Flames closed out the 2008-09 season with a 5-3 win over Iowa on Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena. Kris Chucko scored twice in the win while Kyle Greentree earned three assists to establish a new franchise record for points in a season. Greentree finished the campaign with 76 points on 39 goals and 37 assists. In addition to Chucko's tallies, Cam Cunning, John Vigilante and Carsen Germyn also supplied goals. Matt Keetley earned the win in net after stopping 22 shots.

The Chops hopped on top at 4:58 of the first period when MacGregor Sharp netted his first professional goal in transition. The Flames responded by scoring a pair of even strength goal before the first period expired. Cam Cunning sent a backhander home at 7:58 of the frame before Kris Chucko scored on a beautiful feed from Carsen Germyn at 14:05 of the period. The Flames skated to the dressing room with a 2-1 lead after one period.

At 6:27 of the second period, John Vigilante scored to push the Flames lead to 3-1. The Chops responded by scoring twice in a span of 14 seconds as Petri Kontiola and Eric Boguniecki scored to tie the game at three. Quad City reclaimed the lead just 19 seconds later when Kris Chucko scooped a puck off the end wall and put it past Iowa's J.P. Levasseur to put the Flames up 4-3 after 40 minutes.

The Flames secured the win with the third period's only goal. Carsen Germyn scored with 8:48 left in the game to set the final at 5-3.
