WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced the team's end of season award winners prior to the team's home finale against the Norfolk Admirals on Saturday.
MEDIA AWARD: Selected by a vote of local media members, the award is presented to the player judged to be most helpful to that contingent throughout the season. Winner - John Curry
STAR OF THE YEAR: Presented to the player who amassed the most points in the Weis/Mr. Z's Three Star Voting after each home game. Winner - Janne Pesonen
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Presented to the first year player judged to have had the best season. Winner - Luca Caputi
COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD: Given to the player who has made the biggest impact through time and efforts made in the Northeastern Pennsylvania community. Winner - Mark Letestu
MOST VALUABLE DEFENSEMAN: Presented to the most consistent defensive player throughout the year. Winner - Ben Lovejoy
LEADING SCORER: Awarded to the player with the highest points total. Winner - Janne Pesonen
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER: Presented to the player who shows the biggest improvement from the start of the season to the end. Winner - Mark Letestu
HERB BROOKS MEMORIAL AWARD: Selected from the winners of the Penguins Booster Club Monthly Award Winners and given to the player who has made an outstanding contribution to the team. Winner - Chris Minard
FAN FAVORITE: Selected by a vote through www.wbspenguins.com and given to the player judged to be most liked by the Penguins fan base. Winner - Paul Bissonnette
PENGUINS AWARD: Given to the player who best demonstrates the qualities of leadership, hard work and determination on the team. Winner - Connor James
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: Presented to the player judged to be the most valuable to the team throughout the season. Winner - John Curry
