Moose announce playoff dates for North Division Semi-Final vs. Toronto Marlies
April 11, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release
With the 2008-09 regular season coming to a close tomorrow, the Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with the American Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies, announced the dates and times for the upcoming North Division Semi-Final between the Moose and Marlies.
The Moose have clinched first place in the North Division, giving them home-ice advantage in the series. As a result, the series will open up in Winnipeg, before shifting to Toronto for Games 3 to 5, and then moving back to Winnipeg for Games 6 & 7, if necessary. The Moose and Marlies will face each other in the opening round of the Calder Cup playoffs for the first time in franchise history. The Moose however have taken on the Toronto Maple Leafs affiliate previously when they were located in St. John's in 2005. That year, the Moose eliminated the Maple Leafs in five games in the North Division Semi-Final.
The Moose can still finish first overall in the entire AHL with a win tonight in Cleveland against the Lake Erie Monsters as well as a loss by the Hershey Bears in Philadelphia. The Moose set new team records in 2008-09, including a new franchise mark for the number of wins, the number of road wins, and tied the mark for the number of home wins. However, the Marlies won the season series this year between the two teams at 2-5-0-1, including six consecutive Toronto wins to wrap up the season series.
The following are the dates, along with locations, and times for the first-round playoff series between the Moose and Marlies (all times central):
