\'Dogs Doubled by Pirates

Portland, ME - The Hamilton Bulldogs allowed four power-play goals as they fell 6-3 to the Portland Pirates on Friday night at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The loss drops the Bulldogs record to 18-30-0-2.

Portland opened the scoring just 42 seconds into the game when Joel Perrault snapped a shot from the low slot past Hamilton goaltender Yann Danis. Igor Pohanka made it 2-0 Pirates at 6:03 when he chipped an Aaron Gavey pass over Danis' shoulder. Portland extended their lead to three goals, scoring with the man-advantage at 16:10. Perrault, who was positioned at the side of the Bulldogs net, buried a rebound for his second marker of night.

Hamilton cut Portland's lead to 3-1 just 2:50 into the middle stanza when Marc-Antoine Pouliot came streaking down the right wing and rifled a shot over the shoulder of Pirates netminder Nathan Marsters. Andrei Kostitsyn and Mathieu Roy earned the assists.

Gavey restored Portland's three-goal lead, potting the team's second power-play goal of the night at 5:46 before Duncan Milroy snapped a shot from the face-off circle with the Bulldogs on the power play at 9:04 to cut the deficit to 4-2. With 51 seconds remaining in the second period, Derek Edwardson scored Portland's third power-play goal of the game.

Olivier Michaud replaced Danis in the Bulldogs net to start the third period.

The Pirates increased their lead to 6-2 at 10:07 of the third period when Pierre Parenteau netted Portland's fourth power-play goal of the game. James Sanford rounded out the scoring at 13:29, firing a point shot past Marsters. Jonathan Ferland and Corey Locke earned the assists.

Danis 25 saves and suffered the loss, while Michaud blocked 9 shots. Marsters made 28 saves.

Hamilton was 1 for 4 on the power play while Portland went 4 for 8.

The Bulldogs return to the ice tomorrow, Saturday, February 4, when they visit the Manchester Monarchs at Verizon Wireless Arena in New Hampshire. Game time is 7:35 p.m.

Hamilton's next home game will take place on Saturday, February 11th when they host the Portland Pirates in the 10th Annual ‘TD Canada Trust Smiles on Ice Game' in support of McMaster Children's Hospital.
