Cleveland Barons News Release

CLEVELAND, OH -- Four consecutive goals to open the game led the Syracuse Crunch to a 4-3 win in Cleveland on Friday night. Josh Hennessy registered two assists in the losing effort for the Barons, who were defeated in their seventh straight contest (0-6-1-0).

Joakim Lindstrom scored twice for the Crunch, who sprinted out to a 3-0 lead through the opening period of play. The Syracuse right winger's first of the night came on a face off play in the offensive zone where he wristed a shot over the left shoulder of Nolan Schaefer at the 6:36 mark of the period. Lindstrom then scored nearly three minutes later on an assist from Mark Hartigan and Geoff Platt for a 2-0 advantage. The assist by Hartigan extended his point streak to 17-games, tied for the longest in the league this season. Greg Mauldin finished the scoring for Syracuse in the opening period with his 10th of the year coming on a deflection. The teams combined for just 11-shots on goal in the opening period; Syracuse holding the 7-4 advantage.

The Barons failed to trim the Syracuse lead trading goals with the Crunch during the middle period of play. Greg Mauldin extended the Syracuse lead to 4-0 with his second goal of the game and 11th of the year on an unassisted tally at the 10:14 mark. Mauldin's goal chased Nolan Schaefer from the Barons goal after 30:14 of action and six saves on 10 Syracuse shots-on-goal. The Barons spoiled Andrew Penner's attempt at his second consecutive shutout with a power play goal from Patrick Rissmiller at the 18:04 mark of the period. Rissmiller's 11th goal of the year was assisted by Garrett Stafford and Josh Hennessy, while the team skated with a two-man advantage.

Another comeback bid from the Barons fell just short with two third-period goals. Aaron Power's second of the season trimmed the Crunch lead to 4-2 at 10:45 of the stanza. The Barons then creeped to within a goal on a power play strike from Matt Carkner, his 8th of the year at the 14:18 mark. The Barons out-shot Syracuse 13-3 in the final frame and established a franchise record for shots allowed in a game at 14 total from the visiting Crunch.

Tonight marks the fourth of a nine game home stand for the Barons, their longest in franchise history. The Barons will host the the Peoria Rivermen tomorrow at 1 O'clock. Tickets for the game are on sale now at the Quicken Loans Arena Box Office.
