Barons Finale Fizzles in Loss to Moose

Cleveland Barons News Release

WINNIPEG, MTB - Three Manitoba forward scored two goals apiece as the Moose defeated the Barons 8-1 on Saturday night in front of a near sellout crowd of 8,369. Brady Leisenring scored his first goal as a professional for the Barons.

A defensive-minded opening period finished without either team scoring a goal. After combining for 151 penalty minutes two nights earlier the teams mustered just four minutes through the first twenty minutes of action. Wade Flaherty made six saves for Manitoba and Dimitri Patzold managed 11-saves.

Jimmy Roy and Lee Goren each scored twice for the Moose leading them to a 6-1 lead over the Barons after forty minutes of play. The explosion of offense began just 27-seconds into the second period as Nathan McIver scored his first goal as a professional behind a sprawled out Dimitri Patzold for the 1-0 advantage. Roy then sandwiched Goren with goals before the Barons could stop the bleeding. Brady Leisenring's first goal as a pro trimmed the Moose lead to 4-1, but Manitoba responded with two more tallies before the period concluded.

Following the Moose's fourth goal of the second period, Dimitri Patzold was lifted from the net for Nolan Schaefer. Goren and Adam Keefe completed the scoring with two more goals to finish the frame.

Jason King scored twice in the third period to complete the scoring and an 8-1 final. With the victory Manitoba reached the 100 point plateau, the 10th AHL team to reach the mark this season.

This evening's game was the final regular season contest in modern day Cleveland Barons history. The San Jose Sharks will be relocating their minor league affiliate to Worcester, Massachusetts for the 2006-07 AHL season. More information is available at www.SharksAHL.com.
