April 15, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
The HERSHEY BEARS got their 101st point of the season last night in Philadelphia, beating the Phantoms 4-1.
The first period started without any scoring, featuring the two goaltenders, Frederic Cassivi and Scott Munroe. Munroe has only appeared in 7 games this season for the Phantoms but looked sharp in the first, turning away 10 BEARS shots. At the other end of the ice, Frederic Cassivi has been the workhorse thus far for the BEARS logging 3,478 minutes in net and stopping a remarkable 1,479 shots on goal.
The Philadelphia Phantoms would draw first blood in the game getting an early second period goal from Philadelphia native Tony Voce. The goal deflected off a BEARS defenseman's skate and found it's way to the back of the net. The BEARS would not let the goal hold them back. Lawrence Nycholat put the BEARS on the board, scoring his 13th goal of the season on the power play. The goal extended his point-scoring streak to nine games. It wouldn't take long for the BEARS to score another power play goal to put the visitors up 2-1. Tomas Fleischmann earned his 29th goal of the season with the assists going to rookies Stephen Werner and Mike Green at the 12:50 mark of the second. The BEARS would take a 2-1 lead into intermission.
The BEARS would put the game away in the third period. Kris Beech got the scoring underway in the third for HERSHEY with his 25th goal of the season from Colin Forbes and Stephen Werner. Graham Mink would also add to the BEARS lead netting his 20th goal of the season at the 14:51 mark of the third.
Notables: Stephen Werner picked up his first two points as a professional. Lawrence Nycholat was awarded the games first star (1G, 1A). The BEARS ended the night 3-10 on the power play. Frederic Cassivi earned his 33rd win of the year. The BEARS out shot the Phantoms 37-26.
The BEARS return to the ice tonight for the final regular season home game of the year against the Binghamton Senators. Tickets are still available for this game and the first round of the Calder Cup playoffs (717) 508-BEAR. Face off is set for 7:00 with the player awards ceremony getting underway at 6:45. The game can also be heard on the BEARS Radio Network beginning at 6:45 and on the B2 network via www.hersheybears.com.
