WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins presented their end of season awards prior to Saturday evening's home finale against the Philadelphia Phantoms. Following is a list of award winners:
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER AWARD - Dany Sabourin
Awarded to the player judged to be most valuable to the team during the regular season
PENGUIN AWARD - Chris Kelleher
Awarded to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of determination, sportsmanship and character in the locker room and on the ice
MOST VALUABLE DEFENSEMAN - Alain Nasreddine
Awarded to the defensemen who has made the largest impact on the team this season
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER - Jonathan Filewich
Awarded to the player who has made the greatest strides in his game during the season
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR - Noah Welch
Awarded to the Penguins player who is judged to have had the best first year as a professional
MEDIA AWARD - Dennis Bonvie
Awarded to the player judged to be most cooperative with the media during the season
LEADING SCORER - Matt Hussey
Awarded to the player with the highest point total on the team during the regular season
COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD - Kenny Corupe
Awarded to the player who has taken an active role in the Northeastern Pennsylvania community
FAN FAVORITE AWARD - Maxime Talbot
Voted on by fans on the team website (www.wbspenguins.com)
STAR OF THE YEAR AWARD - Dany Sabourin
Awarded to the player who has collected the highest number of three-star selections during the season
HERB BROOKS MEMORIAL AWARD - Matt Hussey
Awarded to the winner of the Booster Club Player of the Month award who best exemplifies the spirit and dedication to the sport that the former Penguins scout and coach showed
