April 15, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
The HERSHEY BEARS ended a great regular season on a high note with an 8-3 win over Binghamton.
The Binghamton Senators started the game off with a Bobby Robins goal that beat BEAR net minder Frederic Cassivi to put the Senators up 1-0. HERSHEY answered with a Joey Tenute goal at the 7:25 mark of the second period to even the score. Binghamton would take the lead into the locker room with a late period goal by former BEAR, Charlie Stephens. The goal was Stephens' 22nd of the season.
The second period would be all HERSHEY. The BEARS scored second period goals from Tomas Fleischmann, Graham Mink, Kris Beech and Chris Bourque. The only blemish of the second was Denis Hamel's 55th goal of the year. The period ended with the chocolate and white ahead 5-3.
HERSHEY would come out flying again in front of 8,097 at GIANT Center to start the third. Joey Tenute would hit the 20-goal mark with his tally in the third from Jared Aulin and Mark Wotton. Mike Green would pick the pocket of a Binghamton defender and score an unassisted goal at the 9:01 mark of the third. Jared Aulin would score the 8th goal of the game for the BEARS to add finishing touches to a dominating win. With the Aulin goal, Nycholat added an assist to extend his point streak to 9 games.
Notables: The BEARS celebrated their 300,000th fan through the doors tonight. The BEARS out shot the Sens 43-26. All-Rookie team member Mike Green ended the game with a goal and 2 assists. HERSHEY tied the second highest point total in their history with 103. Frederic Cassivi was awarded the team's most valuable player award in a pre-game ceremony.
The BEARS begin their quest for their 9th Calder Cup in the teams history Wednesday when they host the Norfolk Admirals. Thanks to Ad-Tech Electronics Inc, Capital BlueCross, Fairview Golf Course, GIANT Food Stores, and PA Central FCU; the HERSHEY BEARS will be giving away 3,000 white Calder Cup t-shirts this Wednesday. None other than "Puckhead" himself creatively designed the t-shirts. Tickets are still available by stopping by the GIANT Center Box Office in person or by calling (717) 508-BEAR.
